NET has been granted a Transport And Works Act Order (TWAO) which gives them the legal powers to extend the tram into a second phase.

Whilst this may sound like bad news to ENT supporters, Phase 2 still has a long way to go before it ever gets built. Funding the local contribution is one of the major hurdles NET will have to overcome. The Government has not set out whatever plans it may have to partially fund Phase 2, as there is unlikely to be any private money available in these harsh economic times.

NET plan to use a Workplace Parking Levy (WPL) to raise the millions of pounds required and this is proving to be very unpopular with businesses and organisations who are fighting hard against it.

As yet there has been no decision on the approval of the WPL and without approval, it is unlikely there will be a NET Phase 2. A decision is expected by the end of the month (April) on WPL and once we have this ENT will look to put out a Newsletter.
