We have received little to support the accuracy
of the patronage/usage figures used by NET
to date, and how sensitive these may be to variations in running time,
fares charged and frequency of service, or number of stops on each route.
We never cease to be amazed by NET's anticipated
passenger figures for the Clifton via Wilford tram route. Using the half
hourly bus service through Compton Acres as an example, it regularly only
carries a handful of passengers in this area, regardless of the time of
day or even when there are no traffic delays. That works out at around
150 people a day going back and forth.
From the few figures released by NET, it would
appear they think that on average 20 people from this area will use each
tram they run, every six minutes, from 6am to midnight. That works out
at 3,600 people each day from this area going to and fro.
If there's that level of demand, why aren't the current bus services
used more?
NET's figures just don't make sense.
